Coby grew up in Bannockburn Baptist Church, and accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord while in High School. In the past few months Coby had recently rejoined the Bannockburn Church Family.
Coby’s childhood was marked by several moves across Texas. He attended early elementary school in Junction, Texas, and moved to Snyder, Texas where he finished his fifth-grade year. He finished his education in Austin, Texas graduating from James Bowie High School in 1991. Following graduation, Coby attended Texas State University for one year before deciding to pursue his lifelong passion and dream of working with automobiles.
Determined and hardworking, Coby enrolled at Austin Community College where he earned his Master Technician Certification. He went on to build a respected career as an auto technician, working at Lamb's Automotive, Qual-Tech Automotive, and Manchaca Service Center. Terry Murray, owner of Manchaca Service Center, became a valued mentor and Christian influence in Coby's life over the 17 years of Coby's employment. Coby took great pride in his work and was known for his skill, dedication, and integrity.
From a young age, Coby demonstrated remarkable talent and discipline. During his elementary and middle school years, he played on All-Star baseball and soccer teams. In high school, his musical ability flourished as he earned the honor of playing Second Chair Trumpet in the Texas State 5A Symphony Orchestra. Music remained a lifelong passion—Coby continued to play the trumpet throughout his adult life and later taught himself to play the guitar, finding joy and expression through music.
Coby loved the outdoors and staying active. His hobbies included skateboarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, biking, and taking walks around his neighborhood. On those walks, he was known for his keen eye for spotting unique and interesting objects, many of which found a place in his ever-growing collection of treasured items.
Those who knew Coby will remember him most for what made him truly special: his quick and often playful sense of humor, his gentle spirit, and his deeply kind heart. He had a quiet way of bringing light into the lives of others and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Coby was preceded in death by his father, Fredy Elswood Briggs of Austin, Texas, in 1995, and by his brother, Gregory Steven Briggs, who passed away in infancy (November 12–14, 1962).
He is survived by his loving mother, Dixie Marie (Hewlett) Briggs of Austin, Texas; his sister D’Lyn (Briggs) Spradling of Austin, Texas, her husband, David Spradling, and their son, Kyler Spradling; his sister Sharmon (Briggs) Coleman of Louisville, Tennessee, and her husband, Dale Coleman; and their daughters, M’Kayla Coleman of Louisville, Tennessee, and Ashlyn Coleman of Round Rock, Texas.
Coby’s life was a gift to those who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
