

Colon H. Bobbitt, age 93, a resident of Austin since December 1952, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2007. Colon was born on December 22, 1913 in Madisonville, Texas, and moved to Huntsville, Texas at an early age. He graduated from Huntsville High School and attended Sam Houston University in Huntsville. He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service for over 37 years, starting his career with the IRS in 1943 as a Field Revenue Officer in Beaumont, Texas. Later assignments included upper management positions in San Antonio, Houston, Beaumont and Austin. In 1963, when the IRS Regional Center was established in Austin, he was selected as one of the first Division Chiefs for the new organization, a position he held until his retirement in August 1980. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Colon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Neves Bobbitt of Austin; daughter, Marsha Kay Inscore of Georgetown; son, Jerry L. Bobbitt of Austin; grandson, Gordon Dean Inscore and wife, Joanne of Dripping Springs; granddaughter, Melinda Kay Dinscore and husband Ben of Georgetown; 7 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Colon was a longtime member of University United Methodist Church, and a past president of the Hickman Mens Class. He was also a member of the Founder Lions Club of Austin, serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the club for over 10 years. He was also associated with many other charitable organizations during his years in Austin. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. with Reverend Bernie Sandberg officiating. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to the nurses and staff at Retirement and Nursing Center for the dedicated care they provided Colon during the past six years.
