Cora Kornfuehrer Hartman was born December 4, 1939 to Paul and Ruth Kornfuehrer in Victoria, Texas. She grew up in Weesatch, Meyersville and Victoria, ultimately living in Austin for more than 40 years. Thursday, December 20, 2012 she went to be with the Lord, passing away peacefully at home after battling bile duct cancer for almost two years.
Cora attended Patti Welder and was a member of the first graduating class of Victoria High School. Many of her friends remember her rushing across the street from Patti Welder to work in their family store. A dedicated Christ follower at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin since 1969, Mrs. Hartman was an active participant in the life of the church. The Hartmans were also loyal members of the Austin Saengerrunde Society where they enjoyed singing German music, dancing and fellowship. Mrs. Hartman was a truly gracious, loving, caring woman, known for her servant spirit, creativity and devotion to her family and friends.
Cora is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Hartman and her children Linda Hartman of Austin; Heather Hartman Vacek and husband Steven of Leander. She also was learning the joy of spoiling six-month-old twin granddaughters Mary and Grace Vacek. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother Paul Kornfuehrer. She was especially thankful for her sister-in-law Susan Kornfuehrer who consistently helped her throughout her treatment.
Friends are invited to a Memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 28 at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Avenue, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests prayerful consideration of donations in Cora’s memory to Faith Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
