Dubs is my father's double cousin. When Dad shares stories of his boyhood, they inevitably include his childhood hero, Dubs, whom Dad described as "just so cool." Indeed, he was. 

My first memory of Dubs was a get-together in Las Vegas (picture below). I was 14 years old, and Dubs was doing his very best to support Dad through what I call "the boyfriend years." He used humor. A LOT of humor. 

A few years later, in Arizona, my parents and I went to the movies with Dubs and his sweet wife, Carol. The movie: Titanic. I was devastated (and still in the boyfriend years). Dubs did his best to comfort me while I bawled and hyperventilated my way through the credits. He used humor. A LOT of humor.

I saw Dubs for the last time in 2015—again, in Vegas. Very much the introvert, I thought I’d be shy to get to know him again, but he had a way of putting me at ease. He showed an interest in my life, smiled a lot, and made clear how much family meant to him—even extended family like me. 

My last memory of him: He and Dad having a beer. Dad was laughing and I hadn’t seen him laugh like that in a long time. Thank you, Dubs, for moments like that; moment of love, laughter, and bringing people to life. 

I have known Wayne... all of my life. Ritchy and Julie dated and then married when I was just a kid. Wayne and Carol were in the picture very early. I really don't remember not knowing them. They have always been around the family. Praise God for that. 

Wayne was always a loving, funny, and wise guy. There have been so many memories over the years. From coaching my baseball team as a kid to golfing with me once I had my own kids. He was so good to all of us. He was loved, appreciated, and will be sorely missed.

Uncle Dub, the cool uncle. 

My favourite memories are of you taking me to my first baseball game and teaching me pool hustling in the bars of New Mexico when I visited in 1992! I recall fondly your natural great sense of humour too from this time. 

It was great that you got to meet Finn and Poppy last time you visited England. They have fond memories of that museum visit even if was the quickest walk round in history. 

My mother was Dubs' aunt, and my brother and I were his double cousins. When his mother was pregnant with him, his dad left her with my family because he'd been called to serve. I was only weeks older than him when he was born. Mom had her hands full, but she loved him dearly. After my brother was born, the three of us bonded for life. Because his parents moved around a lot, we didn't get to see him as often as we would have liked, but we always loved and missed him.  Now, there's only the missing.

Dubs was my idol all through boyhood and adulthood.  I always thought i would  be the 1st to go. But cancer does not discriminate.  Dubs had a wonderful family  and he loved them dearly. Dubs and l considered ourselves brothers

I will  always love Dubs and will always treasure his memory. 

I first met Wayne when Julie decided to marry my brother, Ritchy. (What was she thinking) I was all of fifteen and was so excited to have a new sister.  My earliest memories of Wayne are that he was tall, kinda quiet, full of witty comments and always had a smile on his face.  Amazingly, that first impression never changed.  I always respected the fact that he and Granny were always committed to family; not just in words, but in actions. They moved multiple times to stay close to family. Wayne, that tall, kinda quiet, witty, smiling man will be greatly missed! 

Dear family,  it has been an honor to have known Wayne for over 30 years, ever since he gave his lovely daughter, Julie, to become our daughter-in-law.  He was very trusting to allow her to become part of our crazy bunch and for that we are thankful.  She is woven into our best memories.  One of our unforgettable memories is when Wayne and Verlyon coached a Babe Ruth team.  We were a little nervous, but they succeeded with flying colors and had a great time doing it.   We will always remember Wayne for his kind and gentle nature, his sarcasm and humor, but most of all for a life well lived.  God bless you until we meet again.

Wayne was a well liked, and highly respected, member of our golfing group.  His cheerful demeanor will certainly be missed, but never forgotten.  May he rest in peace.

Mr. Shaw as I called him was a gift to this world. He was a kind and respected gentleman who was an asset to the game of golf and the world. RIP.

Wayne was indeed one of the good guys to play a round of golf with. Total gentlemen, respected by all, and a VERY good stick. The Grey Rock guys are sad to say so long friend, too soon.
Our profound condolences to his family.

Dalton was my very best male friend.  I met him in the 7th grade of school  and have been friends with him ever since.  In later years his lovely wife Carol and I became friends and our families really united.  They were both so special to me.  My heart is broken to lose him but he is with my recently  lost husband in heaven.  He had a wonderful family that will take care of the love of his life (Carol) so he can rest easy.  God bless him,  I love him and miss him.

I am just one of the many members of the SMGA at Grey Rock  that considers it an honor to have known Wayne. He was a gentleman and will be missed by everyone who came into contact with him.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family. 

We all enjoyed playing with Wayne at the Rock.  A true gentleman who will be missed by not only his family but those whose lives he touched.  As a competitor he was just getting his game in shape and I will remember looking back on his long drives thinking who was it that hit it that far. 
After Your sadness subsides I hope you can remember your good times with this wonderful man.

Sorry for Wayne's passing, he was a very well respected member of our Senior Men's Golf Association at Grey Rock Golf Club.  He was one of our kindest and liked guys.  He will be missed.  

My favourite memory of Uncle Dub was opening my front door to find him and Auntie Carol standing there, when he had (finally) come to the UK to see his English nieces!
We’d had some great conversations whenever we visited, and some of those family stories are now legendary.
You are missed.

It was a pleasure meeting you. For someone who had done great things and been to amazing dangerous places you were humble. I remember you taking me to Reds, and allowing me to fire the WW2 handgun, what an experience holding some real history in my hands, something il never forget.  Calm seas and fair winds friend. 

Everybody has a place in my heart and when they go they leave a mark. 💜

Great niece

My early memories of Uncle Dub are him visiting us in the UK in the 70’s. I was in awe - he was so tall and slightly scary! I was finally able to stay with him and Carol in New Mexico in the 90s and remember playing pool and having a beer with Dub and his friend - I thought he was the coolest Uncle! 
I’m glad he got to meet my daughter Caitlin - his great niece. 
Although we live so far away he’s always been a constant in my life and I shall miss him terribly xxx
