

Daniel Edward Hendrickson passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side in Austin, TX on Friday, January 24, 2014, after a short battle with lung cancer. Dan was born in Olean, NY on February 7, 1943 to Donald and Phyllis Reddy Hendrickson. He was the eldest of seven children. Dan's wife of 39 years Helen "Penny" Piercy predeceased him in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of three years, Jacqueline Morris, his children, Marc Edward Hendrickson and Melissa Marie (Troy) Fontenot, grandchildren, Andrew McClendon Fontenot and Brittany Erinn Fontenot, brothers, Donald (Patricia), William (Debra), and Mark, sisters, Phyllis Brechtel, Sharon Reed, and Barbara Starr, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Dan retired from the US Air Force in 1989 at the rank of Master Sergeant after 26 years of service, including one tour during the Vietnam Conflict and two tours in England. Dan then worked 19 years with the IRS before retiring to a life of extensive world traveling. During his life, he was continually active in his church; as young man serving as an altar boy and as an adult serving as a Eucharistic Minister. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and was scout master for his son's troop. His grandson joined him in the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010. Dan enjoyed sports particularly football, baseball, bowling, and pinochle. He officiated youth and adult games during his time in England and in the Austin area. Dan was an avid bowler and in 1987 bowled his way to winning the USAF United Kingdom Championship. He was a keen pinochle card player and played weekly with friends. Dan was also a licensed amateur radio operator, which his father in-law introduced him to and his son now continues the hobby. Dan was always well-liked by anyone who met him and was a very generous and caring man.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress, Austin TX. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb 5, 10:00 am at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf St, Austin TX.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Epilepsy Foundation in honor of his granddaughter.
