Daniel was the third of five children of Romulo and Jane Reyes. He began his career at the age of 15 as a delivery boy for Economy Engraving. Within a few short years, his dedication earned him a promotion, leading a department and a new title of Photo Engraver. During his career, Daniel spent many hours in a dark room, developing film from various advertising agencies. His team would take the image from the film, develop a negative and transfer the image to an etched, metal plate. The plates would go through final proofing and after Daniel approved, would be delivered to their respective client for mass print production in magazines and newspapers. Daniel grew up with the company and retired at 62. During his retirement, Daniel decided to work part time to allow him to continue interaction with the public. Austin-ites and commuters would frequently see him behind the counters of Diamond Shamrock convenience stores, now known as Valero.
Daniel enjoyed relaxing in and around water. Annual family vacations were trips to the beach, which were often not announced until the last minute to keep the kids from driving he and his wife crazy with repeated "is it time to go to the beach yet?" questions from the children. When not relaxing on the sands of a Texas coast with the salty, sandy surf crashing in front of him, Daniel enjoyed spending time with his brother and their sons sitting in a boat, gently casting a fishing line in a calm, Texas lake.
His wife spent lunch and dinner with him nearly every day during the last 12 years of his life on earth at Monte Siesta Nursing Home. He was surrounded by continuous prayer lead by his wife and the prayer staff of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church. He passed peacefully with his wife Mary and son Anthony at his side.
Daniel's warm heart and gentle nature will be forever remembered by his family.
