Dean Henry Weisner, of Austin, Texas, passed away February 6th, 2023, after an extended hospital stay following a car accident. He was 74. Affectionately known as Dean’o, he was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 4th, 1949, to the late Col. Henry John and Georgiana Martha Weisner.
Regular “army brats,” Dean and his brothers Mark and Thomas grew up on military bases across the country and abroad. Throughout school Dean played multiple sports and lettered in football as both a player and an assistant coach. He was in the first graduating class of the Berlin American High School in Germany, and later attended Central Texas College.
Over the years, he lived many places and held a variety of jobs, but finally settled in Austin where he met his loving wife, Carol. One common thread in all the jobs Dean held was his love for working with his hands. From building boats in California to over twenty years fabricating computer chips at Motorola, he always enjoyed making things. After retiring from Motorola, he spent many years building cabinets and practicing woodworking.
Throughout his life, Dean’o enjoyed being outdoors. He loved working in the yard, mowing and edging the lawn. He also remained an avid sports fan. He was one of the Spurs’ “baseline bums” while living in San Antonio and win or lose he made sure to watch every game the Cowboys played.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother Mark Weisner. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Giorda, his brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Dee Weisner, and several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the ER, Surgical ICU, and Palliative teams at Dell Seaton Medical Center at the University of Texas for their compassionate care during Dean’s month-long stay. They'd also like to thank their wonderful community of friends for their support and prayers.
A Burial Ceremony will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery (2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX) on Friday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service and Reception at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. (3208 Exposition Boulevard , Austin, TX).
