

Dennis Sullivan, a longtime Austin resident, died Thursday, August 21, 2003. He was born November 16, 1928, in Lufkin, Texas to Joe and Ruby Sullivan. Dennis graduated from Lufkin High School in 1945. In 1951, he entered the United States Army and served in Korea during the war. Upon discharge, he entered Sam Houston State University where he earned a B.S. degree. Dennis then began a longtime career with the Texas Department of Human Services (T.D.H.S.) working first in Houston, later in Dallas and finally in Austin. His employment was only interrupted to work for, and receive, a MSW from the Warden School of Social Services, Our Lady of the Lake University. He retired from T.D.H.S. in 1987. Dennis was a long time member of the Town Lake YMCA and, since 1987, a devoted member of the YMCA Senior Fitness Class. He also enjoyed swimming in the Ys pool and water exercise classes. He was a member of St. Davids Episcopal Church and the Retired State Employees Association. Dennis is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David and Gwenda Sullivan, of Victoria, Texas; his good friend, Carol Sedanko, of Dallas, Texas; niece, Susan E. Sullivan, of Issaquah, Washington; and nephew, John D. Sullivan, of San Antonio, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, with The Reverend C. Kern Huff, of St. Davids Episcopal Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Town Lake YMCA, the Town Lake Animal Shelter, the Humane Society SPCA Austin, or to a charity of ones choice.
