Dixie Lee Boone was born in Manazola, Colorado on April 4th, 1930 to Leslie and Emelyn Jenkins, weighing one pound. Dixie survived thanks to the wisdom of her Grandmother, Ma Jenkins who prepared an incubator from two whiskey bottles and a wooden shoe box and then placed Dixie on the wood stove. She joined her heavenly Father and family on Thursday, the 14th day, April 2011.
Dixie graduated from Donna High School, and then went on to Baptist Memorial Nursing School, in San Antonio, Texas where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.
Dixie met the love of her life while attending nursing school, a young Airman by the name of Jim Boone from Tennessee. Soon after graduation the two were married. They traveled the world during his twenty year career. Dixie practiced her nursing skills through out their travels whether as employed in the states or as a medical volunteer while overseas. When Jim retired they settled in the Austin area. Dixie began her nineteen years of OB GYN Nursing at St. David’s Hospital, retiring in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Boone; parents, Leslie and Emelyn Keeton Jenkins; brothers, Buddy Jenkins and Leslie (Ricky) Jenkins.
Her life was blessed with two children, Carole Ann Kalina and husband, Francis; son, Scott Boone; two grandsons, Jordon Kalina and wife, Jennifer and Aaron Kalina; she is also survived by her brother, Paul G. Jenkins and wife, Sherry; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jenkins, and Judy Jenkins.
Dixie will be remembered for her infatuating smile, giving, caring and love to others that she came in contact with. She was always sacrificing her own needs in order to put others first! She was always the life of the party!
