Born in Austin, Texas, on October 31, 1934, to Herman and Erna Becker, Donald was the twin brother of Delbert and grew up alongside his brothers Herbert, Harold, and Alfred. His formative years were spent in Austin, where he developed a passion for learning and discovery.
After graduating from high school, Donald enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with honor before being granted an honorable discharge to attend college at the University of Texas at Austin. His academic focus was in mathematics, and it was during his college years that his passion for computer programming began to flourish.
In March of 1962, Donald married the love of his life, Thyra Jean Butler, and together they moved to Dallas, Texas. They were blessed with four children, though their firstborn, Donna Elizabeth, tragically passed away after just one day in January of 1963. Donald and Thyra’s family was later completed with the births of Charles, Barbara, and Neal.
Donald and Thyra were devoted members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dallas, where they found a strong sense of community and faith. He was a loving husband and father, and after Thyra's passing on September 27, 1995, he continued to honor her memory with deep love and grace. He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles, who passed away in September of 2014.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Barbara, and son, Neal, as well as several nieces and nephews. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
