Don Rincon was born in Houston, Texas on September 27, 1949 and died on Monday, November 3, 2014 in Austin Texas. His parents, Robert and Filomena Cantú Rincon, are deceased. Don is survived by his wife, Melinda Lamar Sterk Rincon, daughter Lauren Elizabeth Rincon, and brother Rodney Rincon of Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Don graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Houston in 1967. He met Melinda in 1973 and they married in May 1974. They moved to Austin in 1982, where Don earned his bachelor's and MBA degrees from St. Edward's University.
Don discovered his love of rock and roll music and playing the guitar when he played in a band during his high school years. Time with the band was one of his fondest memories, and his love of rock and roll music lasted his entire life. He had a life-long passion for Ford Mustangs that began in 1968 when his dad bought a turquoise '68 Mustang Convertible. Dad took the bus; Don took the car. Baseball was a lifelong passion. He played on city softball leagues all over Austin and loved every minute of it. There was no greater fan of the New York Yankees than Don. He was a natural artist, cartoonist, and caricaturist. His pen-and-ink drawings are detailed and beautiful; all reflect his sense of humor. Those at Aus-Tex Printing, where Don worked, will remember him as "The Hyphenator."
The last St. Thomas reunion several years ago brought renewed friendships and great joy to Don. He was so looking forward to seeing his St. Thomas friends again this year.
Don will be remembered by his large extended family and close circle of loving friends for his devotion to us, for his sense of humor, and his ability to keep us laughing.
Don's family would like to thank all caregivers for the tremendous care and support given to Don, from the Austin-Travis County first responders through the superlative staff of Seton Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 1314 East University Avenue, Georgetown, Texas 78626.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gladney Center for Adoption, 6300 John Ryan Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76132-4122.
