Doris Elaine (D.E.) Abington-Muller went home to be with our Lord on August 26, 2025, in Austin, Texas at the age of 91. She was born in Pineville, Louisiana to John and Doris Adams on March 20, 1934.
Doris Elaine married her college sweetheart, James (Jim) William Abington (deceased) on August 16, 1955. She faithfully stood beside him throughout his pastorates and became a charter member of Bannockburn Baptist Church in May 1973, where Jim served as the founding pastor.
In September 2010, Doris Elaine married Charles Muller, a former Music Minister. Jim, Doris Elaine, Charles and Evelyn, Charles’ late wife and close friend of Doris Elaine, all met at college in Louisiana. Jim and Charles also attended seminary together.
Doris Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Abington (May 2003), and her daughter-in-law, Eva Gail Abington (July 2021), and is survived by her husband Charles; her brother John Adams (and wife Margaret); her son Bill Abington; her daughter Susan Prichett (and husband Steve); and daughters Lisa and Sheri Abington who reside at Austin State Supported Living Center. She also dearly loved and cherished her four grandchildren, their spouses, and her great grandchild: Hallie Hanus (and husband Austin, along with their daughter, Maura), Reagan Abington, Rachel Kubitz (and husband Kolton), and Thomas Prichett (and wife Delaney).
Doris Elaine’s influence on her family, church members, and women across Texas is lasting and multi-generational. She loved teaching! After graduating from Louisiana College with a Bachelor of Arts, she taught English in various public-school systems full-time and later as a substitute teacher in Austin. She also tutored college students at St. Edwards University. Within the church, Doris Elaine joyfully served as a teacher, leading women’s groups, singles ministry, and young couples’ Bible studies and Sunday School at Bannockburn for decades. She was a beloved speaker at women’s seminars outside of Bannockburn, known for her wisdom, unique experience, and engaging delivery.
As a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Doris Elaine delighted in being with people! Her personality was dynamic, and her sense of humor broad. She often laughed at herself, and her laughter was contagious. Heaven’s gates now welcome her with joy!
A Memorial Service will be held at Bannockburn Church on Friday, September 5, 2025, at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Bannockburn Memorial Building Fund.
