On July 5, 2017, Doris Jean (DJ) Ellison of Austin, Texas, age 81, went to live eternally with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born in 1935 in Oak Hill and lived her entire life in the area. She was raised in the Baptist Church and at an early age discovered her many godly talents, including playing the piano. She played the piano and organ for over 30 years at that same church where, at the age of 16, she met her soulmate and the love of her life, Bill Ellison. They fell in love over their relationship with God. DJ was the perfect example of a Proverbs 31 woman, and although we are saddened at our loss, we rejoice in knowing she is in heaven and playing the piano and organ in HIS church.
17 years ago, DJ was blessed with the wonderful gift of a heart transplant and has since celebrated her “heart birthday” with joy and gratitude every January.
DJ is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Jessie Grumbles, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, the Reverend Clark and Annie Jo Ellison. She is survived by Bill Ellison, her husband of 63 years, her son Mark Ellison and wife Alicia, and her daughter Kimberly Myers and husband Tim. She is also survived by grandchildren Ashlye Bauerle Bays, Shane Bauerle and wife Lindsay, Tyler Key, and Sara Luckenbill and husband Jeremy, along with greatgrandchildren Brylee Bays, Bryson Bays, Cameryn Key, Faith Bauerle, Teagan Bauerle, and Jonah Luckenbill.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, at Hyde Park Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow immediately after at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church or the Seton Heart Specialty Care and Transplant Center.
