Dorothy Hensley Cummings

Dorothy Hensley Cummings, 84, of Waco, formerly of Austin, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014. She was born in Newnan, Georgia on August 23, 1929 to Marion R. and Edna Blanche (Parker) Hensley.

Dorothy married Russell B. Cummings in Houston in 1949. He preceded her in death in April of 2008. Dorothy enjoyed participating in the many activities at the Atrium of Bellmead and especially adored the little children.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Russell and brothers Marion R. (Buddy) Hensley and Charlie Hensley.

She is survived by her son, David Cummings and his wife Diana; her daughter, Karen Garrett and her husband Johnny; grandsons Russell Lang and his wife Erin; and Carl T. Norwood; and great-granddaughter, Emerson Page Lang. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Shoemake; brother Joe Hensley; and sisters-in-law Marilyn Hensley and Binnie Hensley.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Texas State Cemetery, 909 Navasota St. Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to Texas State University's Clinic for Autism Research Evaluation and Support (CARES). Donations will be used to create the Dorothy Cummings scholarship. This scholarship will provide treatment services to children that would not otherwise be able to receive services from CARES due to financial hardship. CARES is a nonprofit clinic that provides diagnostic, educational, and treatment services to children with autism spectrum disorders. Dorothy Cumming's grandson (Dr. Russell Lang) is the executive director of CARES and Dorothy was always devoted to supporting the efforts of her children and grandchildren.
