

Dorothy Jane Critchlow Davol of Austin, age 85, died April 28, 2005. Dot, as her friends knew her, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania March 4, 1920 to Elisabeth and Paul Critchlow. She and her older brother and sister were raised in Sewickley, PA. Her sister, Eleanor Critchlow Drake of Austin introduced her to John Davol who became her husband in 1940. She and John moved to Austin in 1947 with their three children, Betty, Steve and Jackie. Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was very generous with her time as a community leader. She led the first Mothers March of Dimes in Austin when it was a march to raise money for the fight against polio, as well as to aid those already stricken with the disease, prior to the Salk vaccine. Dot was a member of the Junior League of Austin and has been a member of Settlement Club since 1960, serving as President in 1970 and 1971. She is survived by her husband John, children Betty Tipton and her husband Delaine, Jackie Cheshire and her husband George, and Steve Davol and his wife Jill, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Eleanor Drake and brother Nisbet Critchlow. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Summit at Westlake Hills, Lakeway and Northwest Hills, and to the staff of Christopher House for their help and care during Dots extended illness.
