Dorothy Jane Watt was born on November 26, 1926 and died on May 2, 2018. Her parents, Charles and Willie Watt, raised her, along with her brother Charlie Jr. in the Hyde Park neighborhood, attending Hyde Park Baptist Church, Austin High School, and the University of Texas. After college, Dorothy taught business classes in Athens, Lacoste, East Central and Calallen before meeting and marrying Elton Jones in 1957. They lived for a brief time in Laredo before moving back to Austin to start their family. She later taught at Pflugerville High School until she retired in 1981. Dorothy and Elton were devout Christians and faithful members of Northwest Baptist Church for 60 years. They dearly loved their Faith Sunday School Class and their friends at Northwest.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Elton, and their infant daughter, Kerry Jane, Dorothy's parents and brother, as well as a great-grandson, Hudson Jones.
She is survived by her son, Bill Jones (Dana) and daughter, Martha Garner (Sam). She was intensely proud of her grandchildren: Aubrey Jones (Mollie), Travis Jones (Jennifer), Garrett Garner (Kim), Hayden, Trevor & Logan Garner, and her great-grandchildren: Natalie, Abigail, Sarah, Presley & Grayson Jones. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6th from 2:00-5:00 pm at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 7th at Brentwood Bible Church, 6301 Woodrow Ave, Austin, Texas 78757.
