

Dorris Bourland Sheppard, b. Dorris Virginia Bourland passed away on September 3, 2006. She was born in Belton, Texas, April 8, 1916 to Samuel Newton Bourland and Mary Ethel Durham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheron Rowe (S.R.) Sheppard, to whom she was married for forty-seven years, her brother, Samuel Newton Bourland, Jr., and her son, Newton Bourland Sheppard. She is survived by her son, Sheron Rowe Sheppard, Jr., and his wife, Sharon Lands Sheppard; her grandchildren, Lisa Sheppard and her husband, Peter Braun, Kyla Schuler and her husband, Douglas Schuler, and Casey Colleen Radle; and great grandchildren, Max Arisco, Logan Schuler, and Shea Schuler. Dorris graduated from Belton High School in 1933, where she received many scholastic honors and extracurricular honors for performing arts. She was voted Belton High School Tiger Queen for two years. After her father died, she and her mother moved to Austin where she went to work for the Steck Publishing Co. and met her husband-to-be. Later, she worked for the University of Texas dormitory system, and for the last fifteen years of her career, in the Governors Office of Volunteer Services, from which she retired in 1987. Dorris was a loving wife to S.R., who was a prominent home builder and developer in Austin in the 1950s and one of the founders of the Austin Homebuilders Association, where he served as President in 1955. She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church, and one of the founders and a charter member of the Austin Sewing Club. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
