Edith Valdespino Salazar, was born on July 11th 1966 in Del Rio, Texas. She passed back into the arms of God, March 11, 2009. She graced everyone she met with her charismatic presence. She is one of the most amazing people that every placed a foot on this Earth. Edith came from humble beginnings to St. Edward's University where she earned her degree in accounting. She was then the first in her family to go on and achieve her Masters Degree. She had a love of knowledge, she was an avid reader and writer. A lover of the arts, she exposed herself and her family to the finer things like opera, travel, and gourmet cooking. She wanted all that life had to offer and she worked hard to give it to herself and share it with all those around her. Edith retired from her position as a grant writer with the City of Austin after a traumatic event brought the need for a small intestine transplant. Prior to deciding to retire she continued to work part time or from home for as long as she could. She was in a position that would help people and she blessed more people with her skill and diligence than she would ever realize. Her spiritual center allowed her to give without expecting anything in return and not only survive, but persevere, in style, where others would have faltered. Family was the core of Edith. She was the first person anyone in her family would call when they needed anything from advice to financial support. She never turned away someone in need. She has been the rock for so many and she will be sorely missed. Edith is preceded in death by her Father, Leopoldo Valdespino, her Mother, Genoveva Valdespino and her Brothers, Jesus and Leopoldo Valdespino, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband and diligent caretaker, Ely Salazar, sister Silvia Morales, brother Alfredo Valdespino, brother Alberto Valdespino, and brother-in-law Joe Lopez. Edith had eighteen nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. She played a motherly role in all of the children's lives and prided herself in being a confidant for all. She is also survived by her eight american bulldogs and her beloved wiener dog Chloe. Edith Valdespino Salazar was educated by life, school and of her own hunger. She lived bigger, loved harder and overcame more strife than most. She was a force to be reckoned with and a cheerleader for all those she touched. Her family would like to acknowledge all the love and support that family and friends have extended throughout her illness. She felt your prayers and you lifted her up when she needed it most. Her nephew said, "If Tia is still with us we will be so lucky", her niece followed up by saying that if she goes with God, he will be ginormously lucky" We are all ginormously lucky to have known this effervescent woman. A Celebration of Edith's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Edith's name to the Bastrop Animal Shelter.
