On October 12, 2012 this world lost a great person, and heaven gained a new angel. Edna Norine Douglas was a wife and mother, a sister and best friend. She was a scholar, and an educator. She was a selfless nurturer who touched the lives of everyone she came across. She was devoted to her friends and family, but most of all she was devoted to Jesus. She was born in Austin on June 26, 1952 and is being welcomed to heaven by her father Rev. Portus Douglas and her mother, Edna Norine Douglas. With her ready smile she will be patiently waiting to be joined with the rest of her family left behind on earth: her husband David Earl Cook, her son Samuel Josiah Cook and his wife Aimee, as well as their unborn child. Her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Lonnie Gilliland, as well as her other adopted son Jody Lee Cook and his family. She will also be waiting to be reunited with the rest of her family and friends too numerous to name. She was the kind of person others strived to emulate, and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 North Lamar Boulevard, in Austin. There will be visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 and the funeral will be at 2:00 Wednesday, October 17, 2012 with the burial to follow. There will be a dinner and celebration of her life at the Hills Prairie Baptist Church on Hwy 304 near Bastrop.
