On Monday, February 8, 2010, Edward David Bayer, Sr., aka Ed, Eddy, Bubba & Yogi, left the loving arms of his wife, children and grandchildren to go to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Eddy was born in Austin, TX, to William T. Bayer, Sr., and Genevieve Brack Bayer, July 29, 1932. After graduation from Austin High School in 1951, he served four years in the U. S. Air Force. His tour of duty never took him out of his beloved Texas. He finished his tour at Randolph AFB in San Antonio. After returning to Austin, he trained as an Offset Press operator at a small print shop. He eventually retired from the University of Texas Printing Division, where he was foreman of the Offset Press Section. Soon after being assigned to Randolph AFB, he became aware that back home in Austin, the freckled face little girl next door, Ginger Farmer, had grown into a young lady. After a short pursuit by her, they tied the knot on August 23, 1954. They moved to Seguin, TX, where he completed his tour of duty in the USAF. While living in Seguin, their first child, Edward, Jr. (David), was born, four years later they were blessed with a second child, Debora Ann. Eddy had a great love of the outdoors. When he was hunting, fishing, water skiing or just driving his boat on Lake Travis, he was happy. In 1979, he and Ginger decided to build a retirement home on Lake Travis. That little project took 15+ years of their lives. They had numerous helpers along the way, which included their children, children-in-laws, family, and many friends. Eddy was preceded in death by his father, William, Sr., his mother, Genevieve, and younger brother, Robert Howard Bayer, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ginger, his son, Edward David, Jr., and wife, Juanita, his daughter Debora Ann Bailey and husband David. Grandchildren, in order of their birth, Melinda Bayer, Joshua Bailey, Melissa Bayer, Jenifer Bailey, and "Trey" (Edward III) Bayer, and Great-grandchild to be Max David. He is also survived by siblings, William T. Bayer, Jr., and wife Georgena, Louis J. Bayer, and wife Sandra, Gennie L. Howard, and husband Paul, and many nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed by all, but certain of the Resurrection, they know he will be waiting for them at heaven's gate. Ginger would like to thank the angels sent by God to assist her in caring for Eddy during the last stages of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). These angels were from Texas Home Health Hospice, Jackie, Kevin, Gwen, Kim, and Carla who attended to all his medical needs. The wonderful Hospice chaplain, Donna that cared for Ed and Ginger's spiritual needs, along with Pastor Heckmann, of Hope Church, so they never lost sight that Jesus Christ died and rose again to give them everlasting life. Special thanks to her angels next door, Bob and Beverly Jackson. And a special thanks to all the ALS South Texas staff, especially Melina Monson. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on February 10, 2010, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on February 11, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6414 North Hampton Dr, Austin, TX. Burial will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Pall bearers will be Joshua Bailey, Trey Bayer, Edward Bayer, Bill Bayer, Charles Bayer, Kenneth Bayer, James Howard, and Rick Farmer. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the ALS Association, South Texas Chapter, 8600 Wurzbach, Suite 700, San Antonio, TX 78240.
