Edward "Poncho" Dailey, 86, retired cabinet maker, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father, quietly and peacefully, on November 26, 2012. He was born on October 15, 1926 to William Crawford and Pearl Dailey in Webberville, Texas, the second of 11 children. He is survived by his brothers W.E. "Red" Dailey and W.C. "Dub" Dailey, his sisters Minnie Jean Brown and Pearlie Turner, his son, Terry Dailey and daughter-in-law Joyce, daughter Sharon Dailey, daughter Pam Dahl and son-in-law Rick, grandchildren Melissa Dailey, Jason Dailey, Tim Wharton and wife Gina, Brad Dahl and wife Hillary, Ross Dahl and Paige Dahl, and great grandchildren Ashley Ragland, Cody Wharton and Shelby Wharton. He is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Francis Elizabeth Davis, his second wife Maggie Combs Quigley Mosher, his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Poncho grew up in the Webberville community of Central Texas during the depression and graduated from Manor High School in 1943. He served in the Army in WWII. In 1944 he married Frances Davis and started a family. In 1963, he founded Custom Cabinets, where he worked daily until he retired in 2004. Poncho was a noted All-Centex fast pitch softball player and a first baseman for several Austin softball teams over a 20-year period—never playing without his black left-handed glove. For 50 years, Poncho was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at River Road Baptist Church, a house of worship that he helped build, as well as name. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and fellowship with family and friends. He always had a joke, a smile and hearty laugh with a mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes. Poncho will be greatly missed by his many friends, family, fellow churchgoers and those whose lives he touched.
The family would like to thank Heavenly Caregiver Services, Inc., especially Ann Heinrich for her kindness and care, as well as Heart to Heart Hospice, with special thanks to Leeann Hartmann.
