

Edward Dillard, age 70, of Austin, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, while riding the country roads on his motorcycle. He was hit head-on by another motorist. Born in Brookhaven, MS, Ed graduated from Mississippi State University, and served for 26 years in the US Air Force, receiving numerous medals and merits of award. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josie and Shurley Dillard, and his wife, Ellen King Dillard. Ed is survived by his daughters, Lauri Mershon and husband Ruark, of Flower Mound, TX and Melynda Spies and husband John, of Wylie, TX; sister, Rita Dillard Pratt, of Inverness, MS; brothers, Shurley Dillard, of DeLeon Springs, FL and Rufus Noble Dillard, of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren, Nicole Spies, Justin Spies, Jessica Patton, Trey Patton, Holden Mershon, Collier Mershon, Zachary Blaire, Madeline Blaire, Samantha Blaire and Tyler Lammers; and his companion of 11 years, Joyce Lammers and her children, Lisa Blaire and husband Harry and Michael Lammers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Funeral Services begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, Reverend Larry Shores officiating. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2004, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004-1001.
