

He was born in Catawissa, Pennsylvania on April 30, 1918 to the late Geraldine and Ray Deittrick. Joining the United States military in 1941 Ed served his country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After 34 years in the military, he retired and worked for the Austin Transit system for over 20 years, retiring at the age of 80.
Before the war Ed was headed for a career in professional baseball. He never lost his love for baseball, coaching little league, supporting the UT baseball team, and cheering on the Houston Astros. An active member of Crestview Methodist church he served as an usher for many years.
Ed is survived by his wife Willie Mae Deittrick of Austin, daughter Dr. Debra Shulsky, son-in-law Joe, and grandson Stone Shulsky of Houston, Texas. Ed is preceded in death by his mother Melinda, father Ray, sisters Dorothy and Grace, and brothers; Carl and Gerald Deittrick.
A time of visitation will be Friday, January 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home 6100 N Lamar Blvd Austin, TX. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Crestview Methodist Church, 1300 Morrow St., Austin, Texas 78757. Ed will be laid to rest in St. James cemetery in Stillwater, Pennsylvania where his relatives have been buried since the 1800's.
