

Efrain attended school in Mayaguez and Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Efrain was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Panama during World War II.
When Efrain completed his tour of duty with the Army, he attended the University of Puerto Rico. He later transferred to Texas to attend Texas Christian University (TCU) where he received his Bachelor's and his Master's Degree in Psychology.
While attending Texas Christian University, Efrain met the love of his life, Ruth Janet Zimmerman, who was a Nursing student at TCU.
Efrain and Ruth completed college, and then reunited in El Paso, Texas, where Efrain worked and then was transferred to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Efrain and Ruth were married in Arkansas on March 18, 1950 and then headed to Gatesville, Texas to continue their careers and start a family.
Efrain and Ruth had 5 children, Jennie, Frances, Fred, Mary and Judy. They were preceded in death by Mary and Judy, who passed as infants.
Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse and Efrain worked as a Psychologist/Counselor for the Texas State School for Boys.
Efrain and Ruth moved to Austin in 1964, when Efrain transferred to work at the Austin State Hospital as a Counselor for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Unit for Juveniles. He retired from the Texas Rehabilitation Commission and went to work at the Internal Revenue Service. He later retired from IRS.
Efrain was very active in the Austin Civitan Club. He held the office of President from 1966 through 1970. He was also the President of the Texas Children and Youth Organization.
Efrain is survived by his sister, Carmen Yost; his children, Jennie McDaniel and husband James, Fred Perez and wife Tommie, Frances Perez; grandchildren, Christopher McDaniel, Victoria Eden McDaniel, Rebecca Lemon and husband Andy, Robbie Maxwell and wife Allison, Kristina Kent and husband Chase; great-grandchildren, Hailee and Logan McDaniel, Bryce, Westyn and Ryder Lemon, Rory, Riley, Stella and Scarlett Maxwell; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Efrain is preceded in death by his parents, Aurora Ortega-Velez and Juan Alejandro Perez-Montalvo; wife Ruth Perez; aunt, Amparo Loperena-Ortega; sister, Eden Loperena; daughters, Mary and Judy Perez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Hill Cemetery.
