

Eleanor Ann Browder Hooks, of Austin, Texas, at 95 years old, passed away in her sleep to her great reunion Wednesday morning, September 21st. Mrs. Thomas Benton Hooks, Jr., Ann to all she knew and loved was born in Parks Camp, Stevens County, Texas on July 2, 1921. She grew up and met her husband Thomas Benton Hooks, Jr. in Houston, Texas. Ann and Thom married in Houston on October 30, 1944. They lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Barbados West Indies, Puerto Rico, Florida and returned to Texas. Both of Ann’s sons were born in Texas 1948 and 1950. In Florida, Ann joined PEO through friends at Granada Presbyterian Church and completed her Associate of Arts at Miami-Dade Junior College. They lived in Eubanks Acres from their return in to Austin, Texas in 1973 when they joined Central Presbyterian Church. In the ‘80’s Ann and Thom joined St. Marks United Methodist Church as associate members with the Davises and friends and neighbors in Eubank Acres. Ann and Thom served and loved the two church families, friends and family through her Thomas B. Hooks, Jr.’s passing in December 2001. Ann, served, loved and was loved ever since. She had become a sister in PEO, Philanthropic and Education Organization and Sisterhood in Florida; in Austin she surpassed 50 years with her Sisterhood. Ann retired from UT Systems as an assistant in the Medical Student Admissions for UT Medical Schools. Ann did not know strangers; she met all with a twinkle in her eyes and loved all as, family, friends, PEO sisters and every one she met. She had friends and family everywhere and loved all. Ann is survived by: her sons, Benton B. Hooks and Fred C. Hooks; by her daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Baker Cook; by her Grandson and wife, Kyle M. and Megan Hooks with granddaughters, Leah, Zoe and Casie; Grandson and wife, Kendall J. and Victoria Hooks; Browders, Starks, Atkins, Sturrocks, Warrens, Welches, Winklers and Murrys, Davises, Magees, Campbells, Watts, PEO sisters, church families. She loved and was loved by all. What a reunion!

Visitation is at Cook Walden on Thursday, September 29 from 6 to 8 in the evening. Memorial Funeral is the following day, Friday, September 29 at 11:30 at St. Marks United Methodist on 601 West Braker Lane, Austin, TX 78753. A reception follows. Interment will be a graveside service in East Texas, on Saturday, October 1, 11:30 AM, in Old Waverly Cemetery, 8 miles East on 150 of New Waverly off IH 45 to Old Waverly Loop 3/10th mile then left on Browder Loop.
