

Carrie Elizabeth (Mason) Hampton was born in Winfield Texas to W.W. and Amanda Mason and joined her Lord after 91 years of an active life of caring and love. Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 65 years, Marshall W. Hampton, her father W.W. Mason, her mother Amanda Mason and brother Winfred Mason. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Wayne Hampton and his wife Mickey Hampton of San Antonio and two granddaughters, Amanda Hampton-Wray of Indiana and Heather L. Williams of Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Early in life Elizabeth felt the call to teach school. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School she graduated from East Texas State Teacher’s College and Stephen F. Austin Teacher’s College. Elizabeth and Marshall married on January 15, 1943 at the Lindale Methodist Church and from there, as the wife of a Methodist minister, she moved and taught in Chandler, Canton, Woodville, Alto, Palestine and Austin, spending 33 years as an educator with 19 years in the Austin Independent School District at Bryker Woods, Barton Hills, Dawson and Menchaca Elementary Schools, as a teacher or a Principal. Elizabeth was a life long Methodist, teaching her first Sunday school class at Bridges Chapel Methodist Church at the age of 12. She taught Sunday school at all the churches they moved to and taught the Dorcas and Fellowship class at Tarrytown United Methodist Church for as long as her health allowed. She was very active in United Methodist Women and was a member of Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Educational Sorority. Marshall and Elizabeth were members and hosts of a Konenio class (K-21) in their home for many years. The family expresses their deep gratitude and appreciation to Buckner Villa Siesta Home and Buckner Hospice for the outstanding, loving care and treatment they gave Elizabeth. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar and a Celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the charity of you choosing.
