

Elmo W. Emshoff
Elmo W. Emshoff died on January 5, 2014 in Austin, TX at the age of 83. He was born in Austin County, Kenney, TX to Otto H. and Laura (Glaeser) Emshoff. He was married to Bertha Fuelberg Emshoff, his beloved wife, for over 63 years.
A lifelong Lutheran, he was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem, TX. He married Bertha Fuelberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Wiedeville Community near Brenham on September 3, 1950. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Austin, TX for 57 years, where he served on the Church Council, various committees and as Property Chairman.
He attended Travis Elementary County School through the 6th grade and the consolidated Kenney School the 7th through the 9th grade. He completed the 10th-12th grade by attending night school at Austin High School and received a diploma in May of 1968.
He came to Austin in September, 1948 and started working for the Southern Union Gas Company, now called Texas Gas Service. One of the most memorable stories he told was how he left his family farm, came to Austin and was able to find a room and food on credit until he found a job and got his first paycheck. He was Service Supervisor for the North half of Austin and retired in March, 1993 after 45 ½ years.
He entered the United States Army on June 9, 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He did his basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso and then was stationed at Fort Baker in Sausalito, CA with the Headquarters Battery, 740th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion as a Supply Sergeant.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing and growing pecans. He loved working in his workshop and as his children always said, “our Daddy can fix anything.” He will be remembered most of all for being a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
Elmo is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Laura Emshoff; sister, Ialine Rau and husband Fred; sister-law, Helen Emshoff; brother, Lee Roy Emshoff and wife Ruth; brother, Clarence Emshoff, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar, Sr. and Bertha Fuelberg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Hilda Wellmann, Reinhard and Mabel Fuelberg, Edward and Carol Fuelberg, Robert and Mary Fuelberg, Lydia Fuelberg, and Charles and Dora Steele.
He is survived by: wife, Bertha Emshoff; daughter, Tina Marie Russ and husband Robert of Hallettsville, TX; son, David Alan Emshoff and wife Pamela of Cedar Park, TX; grandson Steven Hoehne of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Stephanie Creech and husband Chad of Cedar Park, TX; grandson, Brandon Emshoff of Cedar Park, TX; brother, Bennie Emshoff of Brenham, TX; brothers-in-law, Arthur Fuelberg and Oscar Fuelberg, Jr both of Brenham, TX; sister-in-law, Annie Marie Lovell and husband Joel of Bryan, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A very special Thanks to Carla Rowe, devoted caregiver, and Hospice Austin for their help, assistance and comfort during Dad’s final journey.
Visitation will be on Tuesday the 7th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Cook-Walden Funeral home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 512-454-5611
Funeral services will be Wednesday the 8th at10:00 am, at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Ave., Austin TX. 512-451-1116 officiated by Reverend Gary Goodson
Interment will be at the Cook-Walden Capital Memorial Parks Cemetery, 14501 N IH35, Pflugerville, TX .
