

Essie Mae Lewis passed away on September 14, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born on November 20, 1934, to Joe Thomas and Leisel Hanna Creacy in Streetman, Texas. She graduated from Ray High school in Corpus Christi, Texas. Essie married Jack Taylor Lewis of the United States Navy in 1956. They were married for 60 years and were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Essie was a loyal homemaker and known to many as “Memaw”. They raised their family in Old San Patricio, Texas where Essie volunteered many years of work in the San Patricio Restoration Society and World Championship Rattlesnake races. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and visiting the Texas Hill Country with her family and friends. The couple later retired in Leakey, Texas where Essie was a member of the Twin Forks FCIA board. Essie enjoyed her life in Leakey and her family will always cherish the years of memories together on the Frio river.
Essie is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Jack Taylor Lewis; daughter, Jacqueline Kay Clark; parents, Joe Thomas and Leisel Hanna Creacy; siblings, James Larkin, Jo Marie, Billy Rae, and William Edwin.
She is survived by daughters, Christy (Joe) Shunk and Jeanne (Bob) Porter; brother-in-law, Earl (Vicky) Lewis; son-in-Law, Bubba Clark; grandchildren Shawna (Jason), Shalene, Chad, Robi (Kris), Kyle (Nikki), Wayne (Jeo), Robert Michael, Taylor, John, Kori, Krista and Laurie; Great-Grandchildren, McKenzie, Jezrie, Kayla, Edward, Kylie, Maegan, Chase, Dallan, Avery, Alyana, and Lane; and many nieces and nephews.
Essie’s Celebration of Life will be held at the New Fellowship Church in Leakey, Texas on October 15, 2022, at 1:00pm, with Pastor Greg Mutchler and Robert Michael Perkins Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leakey EMS, P.O. Box 803, Leakey, Texas 78873 or a charity of your choice.
