

Ethel was born in Manor, the youngest daughter of Charles Chaplin and Iva Alford Eppright. She enjoyed growing up there, surrounded by her many Eppright relatives and friends in that small, supportive community. She excelled in music and was an outstanding student, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1945, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Ethel became a beloved teacher at elementary schools in Manor and Austin. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, Baptist hymns, church and spending time with her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by husbands John M. Leigh, M.D. and John R. Davis, and by her siblings Margaret A. Eppright and Charles C. Eppright. She is survived by her sons John M. Leigh (Austin) and James H. Leigh (Jane, College Station); her grandchildren Lisa Leigh Kelly (Tim, Mesa, AZ), Rebecca Leigh Cole (Tim, Austin), J. Daniel Leigh (College Station) and Robert S. Leigh (Helsinki, Finland); her great-grandchildren Connor Cole (Austin), Christian Cole (Austin), Chloe Kelly (Mesa, AZ), Charis Kelly (Mesa AZ), Caleb Kelly (Mesa AZ), and Clarke Kelly (Mesa, AZ); and her sister-in-law Dorothy Leigh Eppright (Austin.) Ethel is also survived by step-daughter Linda Davis von Kreisler (Nicolai, Austin), step-grandchildren Elizabeth von Kreisler (Austin) and Christian von Kreisler (Austin), along with nephews Charles Leigh Eppright (Patsy, Austin) and David Eppright (Pensacola, FL). Ethel also cherished close relationships with numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins in Texas and other states.
Ethel's family would like to thank the Richard Covey family, Patti Renaldo, and Marva Cooper for their friendship and outstanding care of her, along with the ICU-B staff at Seton Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14th with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Baptist Church, located at 4400 Maybelle Avenue in Austin, the Reverend Kenneth Harpster officiating. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Texas Baptist Children's Home in Round Rock or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
