

Eugene Harrison Kunkel Eugene Harrison Kunkel died April 9, 2005 at the Beacon House, San Antonio, Texas. Born September 24, 1914 in Oregon, Missouri. Former owner of Kunkel Copy Systems, Austin, Texas, Mr. Kunkel was an officer of SCM, rising to Vice President in 1963, where he began his career in 1939 as a salesman. Mr. Kunkel grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from the University of Missouri in 1937. Early on he became involved in the Boy Scouts of America, and after graduation went to work full time for them as a Scout Executive in Oklahoma. Even after leaving them professionally, he remained active virtually his entire adult life as a volunteer. He earned an Eagle with 2 Silver Palms, and as an adult leader was awarded the Silver Beaver and the Silver Antelope award. He spent many summers using his vacations with his family to teach at the adult leadership training programs at the Philmont National Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico. Mr. Kunkel had also served as Director of the Board, St. Johns Methodist Church, on the Board of Directors for Travis County Cancer Association, Director for the United Way, and President of the Austin Kiwanis Club. He was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of American and Camp Fire Girls in Austin. He was a Mason, and served as a role model to many for his life of volunteerism and civic accomplishments. Mr. Kunkel was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Eunice, as well as his brother Norman, and sister Ione. He is survived by 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Children are Barbara Farr (son-in-law Pike Farr) of Glencoe, MO, Jackson Kunkel (wife Joan) of Amherst, NH, Wayne Kunkel (wife Linda) of Skaneateles, NY, Ann Marschall (son-in-law Tom Marschall) of Stone Mountain, GA, and Norman Kunkel (wife Charlotte) of San Antonio, TX. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, April 13 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin. Funeral Services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel Thursday April 14th at 10:30 a.m. Internment will be held at Memorial Hill Park Cemetery, Pflugerville Texas, following the service at Weed-Corley-Fish.
