Eugene Theron McGregor passed away on Sept. 5, 2011, at the age of 88. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, he was a graduate of the Texas Military Institute and served in the Army's 29th Evacuation Hospital in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he brought a little Las Vegas to Austin as the manager of the Club Caravan at the Villa Capri Hotel. He made a successful career as a builder and apartment owner, becoming president of the Austin Apartment Association. A championship gin rummy player, he was lucky at cards and lucky at life.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his daughter, Sharon McGregor Gamblin; his son, Eugene T. McGregor II; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas, 78705.
