Letter to My Mommy
Dear Mommy,
I don’t know how to even start this because I’m so used to having you next to me or on the other end of the phone. Now I only talk to the sky with no answer back! I don’t know how I’m going to survive life without you. Without hearing “Mija,” “Booger Bear,” Baby Girl,” or “Sara Jane” when you were mad. I miss your voice, your laugh, your “I love you mija.” I just miss you mom! There are too many memories to put on paper but I will keep them all in my heart. Everything from my pageants, my sitting under your desk at the 62nd, to my softball years, all the way to you supporting me while I fought every illness while in school, even through adulthood!
I have always had you by my side! Now I feel so alone. I have daddy with me but he hates when I’m sick. You were always there in the ER rooms, after I was admitted sleeping in the room with me even when I told you I was old enough to be alone. Right now as I write this out I’m fighting sepsis but I checked myself out to take care of daddy. Maybe I’m just selfishly hoping this will take me because I don’t know how I’m going to do this without you! But I know I have to keep going for you and for daddy! I just wish you were here but I know your daddy was the first one to welcome you to heaven! Then all of our pets ran to you all happy to see “Grandma.” I know you were happy to see Shorty, Pretty Girl, Pancho, Junebug, Patches, Dutchess, Bleu Bleu, the list can keep going! I just pray that I’m lucky enough to join you!
I love you mommy aka “woman!” Daddy misses you so much as well as the rest of the family! Jason had to take a day to himself because you were his aunt Nanie! Lana just cried, but I don’t know why I’m telling you this when you have seen it all!
Alright mom, I love you, I always will and I will miss you even more.
Love,
Mija, Sara Jane
Eulogy
Flora Jane Fuller Alaniz, born May 23, 1952 first born to Floyd Jaes Fuller and Sammie Lou Fuller in Raymondville, Texas. As the oldest of 6 kids she always loved being the big sister to June, Jeff, Ben, Beth, Wallace, and Lana, where they were all raised in San Juan, Texas among the orchards and canals. Although they didn’t have much money they were all raised with plenty of love. Jane was a proud Rio Grande Valley Girl and an even prouder PSJA (Pharr San Juan Alamo) Bear where she graduated in 1970. Before that she met the love of her life, Ramiro “Tom” Alaniz in September 1967 during his rescue missions with the Air Force during hurricane Beulah. They were married on August 14, 1969. Even though they spent their first year of marriage apart as he served in Vietnam they spent the next 53 years together traveling the world as he was in the Air Force.
Jane sadly tried many times to become a mother but her prayers were finally answered on June 18, 1982 in Bossier City, Louisiana when she gave birth to her daughter, Sara Jane Alaniz. She was an incredible mother, wife, adopted mother to many of Sara’s friends, big sister, and friend to many around the world. She was truly blessed to travel around the world as a proud Air Force wife, meeting many friends along the way. Her final stop as an Air Force wife was at Bergstrom Air Force Base where she won “yard of the year” two years in a row and proudly worked under one of her best friends to today, Captain Jerry Putnam at the 62nd TRTS flight squadron.
When her husband finally returned she turned her attention to her daughter, becoming her biggest supporter in Sara’s softball games, pageants, school years at Del Valle ISD where she was a PTA mom, band mother, and eventually a proud board member’s wife when Tom became a DVISD board member. Once Sara graduated and Tom left the board she turned her attention to family life. She rescued little animals, fed homeless animals, loved tending to her roses, her family, cooking, and just trying to enjoy life. She loved going to Las Vegas, N*Sync concerts, Bobby Vinton concert with her husband, her cats, dogs, cattle, and her precious donkey “Elvis.” Although 2 strokes took most of who she was, she was still blessed to go home for 6 weeks with her husband, daughter, adopted daughter Lacey, son in law DJ, surrounded by her grandkids Donald, Destinee, Aiden, and Aris, along with granddaughter Mikaela.
Although she is no longer here in the physical sense she will forever live in our hearts.
PS. One thing about Jane was that she was the proud mother of Little Miss Louisiana 1984 and Cutest Kid in Austin 1987!
