After graduating from Lockhart High School, Florence left her hometown to enroll in nurses' training at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
When Forrest "Toddy" Preece proposed to her and she married him in December 1938, she was dismissed from the training program, as were all the trainees who decided to wed in that era.
After marrying, Toddy and Florence lived in rental apartments until they built their home in Austin's Rosedale neighborhood. They lived there from February 1940 until their deaths.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her sister. She is survived by her son Forrest Preece, Jr. and his wife Linda Ball.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Hyde Park Christian Church.
