Frances Ilene Johnson Brooks, was born on May 18, 1936 in Austin, Texas to Albert Lester and Esther (Bramberg) Johnson. Frances was baptized September 29, 1936, and confirmed on November 23, 1952 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
Frances grew up in Austin, Texas. She attended Winn Elementary, UJH, and graduated from Austin High School. One of her early in life highlights was being named May Fete Queen at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She started her career at an insurance company and retired from City of Austin Accounts Payable Department.
Although she did not have any children of her own, she claimed her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as her own. She traveled many miles to be with them. Frances attended births, baptisms, birthdays, confirmations, graduations, and was looking forward to more of these special occasions. She sat on many bleachers, cheering on her kids in baseball, volleyball, performances, softball, football, livestock shows and many other events. If she heard the word fishing or go, she was ready. Fishing was one of her all time favorites. She picked sweet corn and put it up so she could enjoy it year round, and was always on the outlook for okra. She also went to see Monster Jam, took a hunting trip, picked blueberries, attended a QVC show in San Antonio, traveled to California, and attended a professional play performance. Frances enjoyed the slot machines and playing games, especially her favorites, 42 and 84. She also volunteered at the food bank, the MDA telethon, and the MDA Stride and Ride.
Frances passed away on December 6, 2011, unexpectedly after a sudden illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Esther Johnson; her brother, Leonard Johnson; nephew, Graham Matthews.
Frances is survived by her sister, Gloria Kizer, brother, Lester Johnson and his wife, Lois; her nieces and nephews, Sheryl Kizer Matthews, Carrie Johnson Cronin and her husband Steve, Kristi Johnson Koop and her husband Chad, and David Kizer and his wife Kim; her great nieces and nephews Graham and Meredith Matthews, Brandon and Joshua Cronin, Ashley, Nicole and Justin Koop, Meagan Kizer and Shelby Sutton.
Frances Brooks enjoyed life and spending time with family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a vibrant, sweet, caring person, and as one of our number one cheerleaders.
