Fred, age 90, of Austin passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Fred was born April 22, 1917 in San Antonio, Texas to Dunn Wong and Lee Shee. Fred lived in San Antonio before he came to Austin and attended Thomas Jefferson High School with the distinction as one of the best tennis players. His parents were second generation American citizens, his father, a successful businessman in San Antonio. His grandparents were the first generation who was awarded full rights and privileges of an American citizen after laboring on the erection of the great railroad from Mexico to Ft. Worth, Texas by General Pershing, their friend and mentor during the World War. He is survived by his spouse of 72 years, R. C. Wong; children, Dr. Mitchel Wong, an Austin Eye Surgeon who has the distinction as the first born of Chinese Ancestry in Austin; Linda Luther, Ellen Kay Flowers; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. Fred had the opportunity to enjoy them all. A special reunion of friends and family was held on Saturday, June 9, 2007.
