Fulgencio René González

René was born on May 5th, 1934, in Premont, Texas to Fulgencio and Maria Luisa González, and was the eldest son of six children, Ninfa, Narcedalia, Blanca, René, Frank, and Hector. One sister, Blanca, and brother, Hector, are still with us. René is survived by his wife, Amparo Valadez González in San Marcos, Texas, and their children, Tony and his wife Linde in Waterford, Virginia, Ed and his wife Jenny in Austin, Texas, Marcella and her husband Gordon Jones in Boston, Massachusetts, and Robert and his wife Monica in Scottsdale, Arizona. René and Amparo have eight grandchildren, Ashley, Duncan, Taylor, Reilly, Jesse, Christian, and Isabelle; one granddaughter, Andi Sinclair, was called by God to His side after only seven weeks of life in 2006.

René retired honorably as a Senior Master Sergeant in purchasing and contracting while serving in the United States Air Force for 21 years. He enjoyed a second career as a well-respected news reporter at KENS, KSAT, and KMOL television stations in San Antonio, Texas. He returned to purchasing in a third career, organizing or leading purchasing departments in Bexar County, Travis County and the City of San Marcos.

He was active in the community, serving on the Pastoral and Finance Councils of St. Mary Catholic Church, Wimberley, Texas, including a stint as Commissioner for the South Hays County Emergency Fire District #3. Being a husband, father, grandpa, and proud owner of what he considered to be a little piece of Texas heaven were his last and most satisfying pursuits.

The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 14711 Ranch Road 12 in Wimberley, Texas, 78676, (512) 847-9181, with recitation of the rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Everett Trebtoske, Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of René to St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
