Gary was born on January 16, 1954, in Camden, New Jersey, and lived in south Jersey until college. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for Honeywell in Pennsylvania, then moved to Texas in 1987. He started at Fisher Controls/Emerson then moved to Freescale/NXP as a Controls Engineer until he retired in 2020.
He loved flying, earning his pilot’s license in 1987, and volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol working up to the rank of Mission Pilot.
Gary’s passion for motorcycling was evidenced by his long adventures to Yellowstone, Ohio, and New Jersey, and his daily bike commute to work – rain or shine, heat or cold. He also taught the Texas Motorcycle Safety course for 10 years.
He really enjoyed disc golf and played every Tuesday with a fantastic, caring “over 55” group. They gifted Gary with a pull cart so he could continue to play without limitations.
In 2009, Gary met Helen Hall at church, and they married in 2011. They enjoyed traveling, spending time in Galveston, and hiking in Woodland Park, Colorado.
It was his kind and selfless nature that set him apart. Gary always looked out for others, offering his time and support whenever it was needed. His caring spirit extended beyond his circle of friends; he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Gary leaves behind his wife Helen Hall, mother Phyllis Houck, siblings Sharon Cunniff (Paul) and Andy (Debi), nephews Alex and Jonathan, stepchildren Stephanie and Neil, and step-granddaughter Vivian.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert L. Houck, and by his children Diana and Jason.
