Gavin Stuart Anderson, age 56, died peacefully January 11, 2009, after a two-year battle with liver cancer. Gavin was born July 8, 1952, in Austin, Texas, and lived here most of his life. After battling alcoholism and drug addiction for twenty years, Gavin experienced a spiritual healing at age 37 and completely transformed his life, becoming an inspiration to all who knew him. For seven years, he was a major program leader for two of the transformational programs of Landmark Education Corporation; empowering, encouraging, and motivating countless people who then went on to change other lives exponentially. Gavin's proudest accomplishment was becoming a life coach, committing himself on a daily basis to people's success, personal growth, and well-being. He used his humor, grace and insight to connect people to their true selves. Throughout his struggle with cancer, Gavin embraced the life lessons to be learned from that experience. His strength, courage, faith and positive attitude were examples for powerful living, despite the circumstances. Gavin's exuberance and enthusiasm for life were a light that shined on all of our faces and in our hearts. His passions included his beloved wife, Pat, as well as the UT longhorns, movies, dogs, books and his family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Anderson, and his dogs, Lucy and Sadie. He is survived by his wife Pat, his father, Thomas Anderson; brothers, Jim and wife, Becky; Eric and wife, Valerie; baby sister, Jeanie "the Bean" Escalona, and stepson, Sean McNulty. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 11 AM at The First Baptist Church, 901 Trinity, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Holistic Health Care Clinic, 107 Scenic Loop Road, Boerne, Texas 78006 or to The Caring Bridge www.caringbridge.org/donate.
