Gayla Cox of Austin, died March 23rd 2016 at the age of 66 years after a courageous 10 month battle with Cancer. Gayla Sue was born to parents BC and Johnnye Faye Harris of Paris, Texas in 1949. Gayla moved to Austin at a very young age and fell in love with the city she would call her forever home. Austin is where Gayla established herself as a successful hairstylist over the span of 40 years, with hundreds of loyal clients she would call friends.
Gayla enjoyed family vacations spent at the Texas Coast, and fished there as often as possible. She also looked forward to her annual trips to Las Vegas where she would play Black Jack, Craps and of course, Slot Machines…sometimes even coming back home with her money!
Gayla, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, is survived by her son and his wife, Dale and Lindsey Walker, by her daughter Asheley Walker Rossi, and by her four grandchildren, Jillian, William, Lucas and Isla Walker, all of Austin. She also leaves behind, her three sisters and their spouses, Shari and Bob Bowen of Bulverde, Sandy McHargue of Leander and Judy and Gary Wimmer of Longview, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her ever-faithful four legged companion, Lola.
Gayla’s greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. The loss of her strength, guidance, laughter, companionship and love leaves a very empty place in all our hearts.
Services will be held at Cook-Walden’s North Lamar location on Friday, April 1st at 10 am.
Contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society are welcomed and encouraged.
