

Mr. Flippen is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lynn Evans Flippen, son George B. Flippen III and his wife Cheemay Ohsawa, two daughters Catherine Flippen Connors and husband Jeff of Cary, North Carolina, and Ange Flippen/Shores of Broomfield, Colorado, grandson Jorin Flippen and wife Rachel of Oceanside, California, six granddaughters Shanon Montgomery and husband Justin, Emily Grey Driver, Brenna Connors, Brittany Shores, Hannah Shores, and Nicole Shores, great grandson Vance Craig Montgomery, sister Jeanette Flippen of Ashland City, Tennessee, sister-in-law Dink Evans-Guerra, brother-in-law Mike Evans and his wife Vicke, and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory Brent Flippen and parents Catherine Elizabeth and George Burdine Flippen, Sr.
He was born on March 30, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Tennessee, and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from “the UT” – the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honorary Fraternity.
He began his career with IBM in Lexington, Kentucky in 1965 and transferred to Austin in 1968 where he was in the development laboratory as a product planner in the Office Products Division. He was awarded two patents for his work on the IBM Memory Typewriter. He retired from IBM in 1995.
For ten years, Mr. Flippen was active in the Austin Aqua Festival, serving as Executive Vice Commodore over ticket sales and marketing. He volunteered as a classroom coach for 8th grade math students. He was an avid golfer, winning the 2007 Men’s Club Championship in his flight at Great Hills Country Club. His special laugh was endearing and infectious. And, he was crazy about his two canine “boys,” Tut and Vido.
As he requested, there will be no funeral service, but friends and family will remember Mr. Flippen at a Memorial Celebration on Thursday, June 23, at 6:30 at the Great Hills Country Club, 5914 Lost Horizon Drive, Austin, Texas 78759. A short presentation will be given at 7:00.
