

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Speight Pederson, his older sister Geraldine Bowers, sisters-in-law Louise Pederson and Sandra Miles. Also mourning his loss are his children, Kristen Marstaller, George R., Gary (Faralyn), Eric (Jacque), Lance, and Todd (Wendy). Additionally, George was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was born in Preston, MN, December 26, 1922. He attended Nevada High School in Nevada, IA. He graduated from Iowa State College (University), Ames, IA earning a BS in Engineering. He proudly served during World War II as an officer in the US Air Force, in the China, Burma, India theatre. George was active duty from 1942 until 1948, then in the USAF reserves until retiring with the rank of Major in 1968.
George moved his family to Dallas, TX from Muscatine, IA in 1955. He worked for Texas Instruments, relocating to Austin in 1971 and continued with TI until his retirement in 1984.
In retirement, George traveled extensively with his wife, Patty. Their globetrotting included trips to Russia, Norway, China, Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and his favorite, Hawaii.
George was preceded in death by both of his parents Carl and Melia, his mother-in-law Faye Schroeder Meredith, his father-in-law Harold E. Speight, his younger brother Curt, his brothers-in-law Fred Bowers and Donald Miles.
Pastor Michael Coffey will be officiating services to be held at 11a.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at The First English Lutheran Church, 3001 Whitis, Austin, TX. There will be a viewing prior to the service, beginning at 10 am. A short graveside service at Austin Memorial Park will follow the church service and a reception at First English Lutheran Church will be immediately following interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First English Lutheran Church or Texas Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
