Gerry was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was loved not only by her family but everyone who met her. On April 11, 1946, she married the love of her life, Carl Pittsford. They moved to the Kirby Mansion in downtown Austin after the birth of their first daughter. One of her favorite stories was when she saw Ernest Tubbs there and insisted he come up to the apartment to see her baby girl! From there they moved to Hank Avenue where they built their home and had two more children.
She was always involved in her children's lives and at one point was a Girl Scout "Brownie" leader in the mid-50's and loved telling stories about the girls in her troop and their many projects. She was a homeroom Mother for many years for all of her children. She was a talented seamstress and crafter and spent many years making dresses for her daughters, crafts for school plays and in later years she became an avid quilter, making quilts for every family member and friends. In 1979 she became an ice skater (an accomplishment she loved to talk about) and even performed with her group twice at Northcross Mall.
