Gerry James Cheeks was born on November 12, 1948 to Jimmy and Bernice Cheeks. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Rising Star Baptist Church and has been a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Gary wanted to work when he was fourteen years old. He worked until he was drafted into military service in 1968. James was preceded in death by his brothers, S.L. Cheeks and Clarence Cheeks, and a sister Vivian Jones. He is survived by his loving mother Bernice Cheeks, sister Ellen Cheeks, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Maurice Bradley, brother Charles Cheeks, and sister Bernice Waddy, as well as a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from five o’clock to seven o’clock in the evening at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas. Funeral Services will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the Cook-Walden Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at one o’clock in the afternoon. Interment will follow at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
