"He believed, he excelled, he served, he lives."
Hanford Craig Ferguson, born to Dee and Luna Ferguson in Winters, Texas on September 26, 1922 left this earth on December 23, 2018 to join others in the Kingdom.
Hanford grew up in West Texas. He survived the depression and dust storms. His greatest joy was his grandparent's farm. He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1939 where he excelled in math and science.
After high school he worked on the dairy farm for 3 years. He then served in the Air Force and Army Ordinance Branch in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
Upon completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas in 1951, he joined Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan.
In September of 1951, he married Joyce Estelle Pequignot (his wife of 61 years) in Angola, Indiana. Their union produced two surviving children: daughter Hilary Jane Ferguson of Round Rock, TX and son, David Clay Ferguson of Sperry, OK. Also surviving are grandchildren Samantha and Melissa as well as three great grandchildren.
After 32 years with the Dow Chemical as a Registered Professional Engineer and Maintenance Manager, then with Dowell as Maintenance Manager of Southern Operations, Hanford (and Joyce) retired to Austin in 1983. Retirement included volunteer activities such as instructor for the AARP Driver Safety Program and weekly duty in client services at Hill Country Community Ministries.
Church and spiritual growth accelerated in retirement. Hanford began the adult spiritual retreat at Bethany UMC, taught Disciple Bible Study classes, and led a Sunday School Class. He listed his spiritual witness given at Bethany in 2004 as a significant achievement in life.
Memorial services will be at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin TX on January 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Care Ministries or House of Friends.
