Harriet “Gail” Glick peacefully left this earth and her loved ones on January 24th, 2026. At 91 years old she fought a fierce battle with an aggressive brain tumor. Although we knew it was impossible, as hard as she fought, we sometimes thought she might actually win the battle.
Born in Baltimore, Md in 1934, she later married and moved to Dallas. After many years of trying to convince her to move to Austin, she finally did and never looked back.
Throughout her long life she was very active and involved with charities, groups, and activities. Among them, a loyal public servant at the MHMR, and the Library of Dallas, she was the owner of Greenway books, a social worker, a librarian, and worked at the Ransom center at UT. She was an avid reader and a staunch supporter of woman’s and civil rights, as well as a collector of beautiful art from around the world and a cultivator of bonsais, some of which she had for 25 plus years. She was also a lover of animals. Growing up we had dogs, cats fish, birds, turtles, ducks, and many others. A lot of them were injured and she would nurse them back to health, then set them free.
Until the tumor at 90 yrs, she was still going strong putting around in her little red car enjoying her bookclubs, Tai Chi, coffee clubs, politics, and her many zoom meetings.
As a mother she was always there for us to give her love, support and encouragement. She was a great mentor and gave us all the love and care of a loving mother, raising us with everything we needed, and she was lots of fun on top of that! She will be dearly miss by her children and all her grandchildren and we feel very blessed and lucky to have had her as our mother/grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, her brother, her grandson, and her ex husband who after 50 years of getting divorced, they still talked on the phone every morning to check on each other.
She is survived by her children Lisa, Leslie, and Mark ( Kimberley), her grandchildren, Adam, Nathalie (Zach), Nethanel, Taylor, and Sara, 3 great grandchildren, and her sister in law, Nansi.
She is also survived by her cherished friends Shirley, Betty, and Barbara who were by her side throughout her life and her sickness, plus many other dear friends, too many to name.
A special thanks to all the caretakers who went above and beyond to take care of her as if she was your own mother. We can not thank you enough. You will forever be in our hearts and memories for the care you gave her.
Thank you also to Katie and Austin Hospice for the care, help and guidance you provided, and to Capital city village and the volunteer’s for all the help, support, and friendship.
If you would like to donate in her memory, please consider Austin Hospice, Capital City Village, or a charity dear to you.
A memorial will be set in the near future.
