

HARRY DAMAIN KOLB Harry D. Kolb of Lakeway, Texas died August 22, 2004, at age 92. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1912, the fourth of eight children of Albert Kolb and Edna Brown Kolb. He married Mary McKeon in 1938. He received bachelor and masters degrees in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan. Before World War II he worked as an engineering writer with Exxon Corporation. . He served in World War II and retired as a Lt. Colonel of the US Air Force, having been awarded the Legion of Merit. After the war he returned to Exxon and led departments in the field of human relations, pioneering many new approaches to employee development and communications. In 1969 he spent two years in Washington, D.C., founding and directing the Postal Services Management Institute. He retired from Exxon in 1973 after 39 years with the company. For 10 years thereafter he did overseas volunteer consulting for the International Executive Service Corps in many developing nations. Besides enjoying golf and fishing, Harry was very active in community affairs in Lakeway. He served the city management in a variety of volunteer assignments. He also headed at various times the Lakeway Church, the Lakeway Yacht & Country Club, the Lakeway Recreational Association, and was secretary of the Lakeway Civic Corporation. He led many committees for the Emmaus Church. He and his wife were honored as Mr. & Mrs. Lakeway at the 25th anniversary of that community. In 1994, he was named Lakeways Outstanding Citizen by the Lakeway Civic Corporation. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary McKeon Kolb, two brothers: Rev. Joseph Kolb, S.J. of Wheeling, West Virginia and William Kolb of Cleveland, Ohio, two children, David Kolb of Auburn, Maine and Nancy Kolb of Acton, Massachusetts, and two grandchildren, Laura End of New York City and Elizabeth Colucci of Paris, France. A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, August 31, at 11 a.m., at the Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmaus Church (1718 Lohmans Crossing, Lakeway TX 78734) or the Lakeway Church Memorial Garden (2203 Lakeway Blvd, Lakeway TX 78734), which was conceived and developed under his leadership.
