Hazel was born on April 5, 1929, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Ida and John Walters. She married her one and only, Billy Carl ‘BC’ Knowlton, in Houston, Texas, on August 17, 1947.
Hazel loved to make others laugh and feel special. Many will remember the annual activities at the Knowlton’s Sears mail order house in Leander, Texas. Every Easter, children of all ages enjoyed an Easter egg hunt visited by both the Easter bunny and Mr. Peanut. At Christmastime, Hazel transformed their home displaying her collection of angels to raise money for the United Methodist Women. She served on many American Cancer Society Relay for Life teams as both Team Captain and Chairperson. Hazel also participated in over forty Walks to Emmaus in the Central Texas area. She found her calling when she joined the Clown Ministry using mime and humor to spread the Word of God.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; younger sister, Lu Taylor; and niece Becca Taylor. Hazel is survived by her husband, BC; niece Donna Coppedge and husband David of Pflugerville; nephew David Taylor of Fort Worth; nephew Steve McCallum and wife Ann of Hot Springs, Arkansas; nephew Stanley McCallum of Malvern, Arkansas; and many other extended family members and friends.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held Friday, July 8th, at 10:00 am at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm in Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Health Sense Hospice. With sincere appreciation and thanks, her family would like to acknowledge the caregivers at Sagebrook Health Center for their love and support over the years. Where heaven and earth meet in all our lives, we see the work of angels.
