
Herbert Frederick Schwartz II Herbert (Herb) Schwartz was born on Jan. 29, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Bessie Schwartz. After graduation from South High School in Pittsburgh, Herb completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh in Pharmacy in 1942. After service in the United States Army, Herb attended the University of Texas and attained his Graduate degree in Pharmacy in 1954. Between 1955 and 1965 Herb was a Special Instructor and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1965 Herb attained his Ph.D from the University of Texas, and continued teaching as a Professor in the School of Pharmacy until 1973. Doctor Schwartz enriched and touched many young lives during his teaching experience. In 1964 Herb followed in his fathers footsteps and with a dear friend opened the Prescription House Pharmacy on Burnet Road in Austin. In 1969 they expanded and opened the Cedar Park Pharmacy in Cedar Park. In 1975 Herb sold his pharmacies, retired from the Army Reserve as Lt. Col., and began to spend more time with his beloved music. Herb was an accomplished musician playing the Tuba and Base Fiddle in numerous bands around Austin including the Ben Hur Shrine band and the Silver Strings. Along the way Herb successfully raised three children. In 1969 Herb married Pauline Brown Smith, and became a loving Husband to Polly for 35 years. Herb is survived by his wife Polly, brother, Earl Schwartz and wife Reta, children, Sally Schwartz, Greg Schwartz, and Mark Smith and wife Donna, and grandchildren Ben and Stacy Smith. The family will receive friends from 3:00 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
