January 8, 1946 – June 7, 2025
Homer Gene Turbeville, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Born on January 8, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to Homer and Marie Turbeville, Homer was raised on a watermelon farm in East Texas alongside his three brothers—Forest, Marlon “Skeets,” and Glendon.
A gifted athlete, Homer played football at Tyler High School before continuing his athletic and academic journey at Rice University. He later completed his degree in Marketing at the University of North Texas. His passion for hard work and connecting with people led him to a successful career in sales across Lubbock and Dallas, Texas. Eventually, Homer became a small business owner—founding a company that continues to thrive today in Austin, where he made his home for the past 27 years.
A devoted Christian, Homer was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and later Austin Ridge Bible Church. He found joy in his faith, family, and the game of golf—earning the nickname “Homer Hound” for his love of "going putting" any chance he could. He was never one to carry a $50 bill in his pocket, and he had a knack for giving his children and grandchildren made-up nicknames that stuck for life. Homer was known for his generous heart, his encouraging words, and his playful, silly spirit. Whether making a great deal, sharing wisdom over a round of golf, or showing up for a loved one, he gave of himself completely. He never met a stranger, always had a story to tell, and found joy in lifting others up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Marie Turbeville; brothers, Skeets and Glendon Turbeville; his beloved wife, Nancy Turbeville; and two cherished grandsons, Jack Turbeville and David McGee. Homer is survived by his brother, Forest Turbeville, and his children: Brian Turbeville, Jay Turbeville and wife Rebecca, Lindsay McGee and husband Don, Packard Anderson, Chris Perkins, Kathy Lapp and husband John, and Jeannine Mulkey and husband Ethan. He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Jordan, Dylan, and Trace Turbeville; Jude and Ava Turbeville; Sam and Jake McGee; Travis Shouse and Cruz Wommack; Brooke and Hunter Lapp; Clayton, Tyler, and Kate Mulkey.
Homer’s life was one marked by love, laughter, faith, and family. He lived with a generous spirit, an ever-present sense of humor, and a heart that never stopped giving. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched. Go get your hole-in-ones for eternity, Homer. We love you always.
A celebration of life service will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church in the chapel at 11am on Monday, June 16, 2025. The address for the church is 3901 Speedway in Austin, Texas 78751.
