 Obituario de Hortense Ann Becker
Hortense Ann Becker passed away in the peace of her home on August 17, 2022, three days before her 80th birthday. Ann was born in Austin, Texas on August 20, 1942. She was the first daughter of Tony Guerra and Celia Hernandez Guerra, both of whom passed before her. Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Carl Becker; her son, Steven, and his wife, Laura; and her granddaughters, Emily and Mia. She is also survived by her sisters, Anita Garcia (husband Joe Garcia) and Christina Bacak (husband Glenn Bacak), and many nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and dear friends. Ann grew up in Austin and attended St. Ignatius School, William B. Travis High School, Nixon-Clay Commercial College, and the University of Texas. She met Carl in 1964, and they were married on October 8, 1966. She worked at Southwestern Bell and for attorney Philip Overton before becoming the Executive Director of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists. After 20 years with the TSA, Ann retired and spent much of her time caring for her granddaughters, whom she adored. She later went on to work at the St. Ignatius Church office and also assisted Fr. Charlie VanWinkle with his publications. Ann’s faith in God was tremendous. She loved going to church, and she loved the many priests, sisters, and friends she met there. Ann enjoyed traveling, particularly to Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York, Notre Dame, Hawaii, Mexico, and Italy. She enjoyed playing games, shopping, going to the movies, and going out to eat at all of Austin’s restaurants, especially Matt’s El Rancho. She loved to dance. She loved celebrating Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and birthdays, and she loved giving gifts for any occasion. Most of all, Ann loved being with her family and friends. Ann had an abundantly kind and caring heart and was always genuinely encouraging and supportive. She was unimaginably generous and truly selfless, always putting everyone else first. Her love for those around her was apparent in everything she did. Her smiles and laughter brought us all joy. We will miss her dearly. Pallbearers are JoJo Garcia, Glenn Bacak, Anthony Bacak, Rob Bacak, Bob Bigger, and Robert Bigger. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Garcia and Christopher Bacak.
